Hi there!

My name is Megan Melby and I have been the school counselor at Juanita Elementary since 2014. I love Juanita Elementary! The students, staff, and community make this the best job. As the school counselor, my role is to support all students and families. I do this through classroom lessons where we discuss a variety of topics such as emotional regulation, feelings, problem solving, and many more. I also offer small groups where students of similar ages come together and focus on a specific skill for success. Meeting with individual students is one of my favorite things to do. We are able to process emotions, problem solve, and plan for any challenges that may come up. I am a support to all and encourage you to reach out for any questions you or your child may have.

I support Juanita Elementary students and families in a variety of ways:

Individual Student Check-ins: Students may request to see me or may be referred by a teacher or parent. Unlike outside therapy, student check-ins are usually brief, and solution focused.

Small Groups: I offer small group counseling for students who need extra support. Sample group topics may include friendship, emotional regulation, family changes, building social skills, anxiety/worry, self-esteem, and more. Students are referred to groups by teachers or guardians.

Counselor Classroom Lessons: All students receive social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons that I teach in their classrooms. Counselor lessons include topics such as problem-solving, empathy, emotion management, and bullying prevention.

Family Support: I work with families to connect them with resources within their community. If you need food, clothing, holiday support etc. please let me know. Feel free to also check out the community list on the Lake Washington website.
